Norman Kendall
Mr. Kendall is the Director of Engineering at Compact Container Systems. He has worked in the maritime and intermodal shipping industries for 47 years. In 1977, he joined Seacontainers Services London, U.K., as a Marine Container Engineer, specializing in the manufacture and repair of refrigerated containers and diesel generators. At this time, Mr. Kendall’s area of operation was Europe and the United Kingdom. However, he completed various refrigerated container projects in Australia and North and South America. In 1981, Mr. Kendall transferred to Seacontainers America Inc. as Engineering Manager of North and South America, responsible for the repair and maintenance of all company equipment in approximately 60 container repair facilities. While at Seacontainers America, Mr. Kendall managed specifications, purchase contracts, negotiation pricing, and oversaw the production of new equipment manufactured in both company-owned and third-party factories in North and South America, including container chassis, ISO tank containers, diesel generators, and 150 KW Power Packs. Mr. Kendall served as a member of the IICL Technical Sub Committee. He also developed a drop frame tank chassis to safely carry a loaded 20ft ISO tank container in conjunction with ABS NY using FEA analysis. He accelerated life testing at Bendix Proving Grounds Indiana and Fruehauf R&D Detroit. He designed and built a 2x100 KW diesel power pack for double-stack rail operation. Mr. Kendall has also provided a series of container construction lectures to the US Customs Service NY to assist in contraband detection.
On retiring from GE Seaco in 2005, Mr. Kendall formed NK Marine Container Services Inc. to provide quality marine container technical support and consulting services and to sell new and used equipment to the shipping industry. Mr. Kendall developed both 20ft and 40ft collapsible end wall flat racks for use in the Caribbean trade. Mr. Kendall also produced marine container refrigeration performance comparison studies for significant U.S.-based shipping companies.
